This is a really nice, easy walk that’s accessible, yet contained within beautiful North Island native regenerating bush. It’s well marked and mostly flat, with a mix of gravel path and soft forest floor.
We diverted off the main loop to head down to the Ōtaki River — a great option if you have time. Most of that section is easy going, except for a short but steep 300m descent through narrow bush. It’s a bit of a scramble, but the river is stunning and well worth the effort. A perfect spot for dogs to paddle or cool off.
