A stunning early-summer day for a walk to explore the Bannockburn sluicing.
The landscape is terrific in this part of the country. Wide open spaces, views for miles and great tracks making for easy walking. This walk is fascinating. The sluicing from the 19th century gold rush have altered the landscape in a way that's hard to believe. There are many areas to explore with good walking over a wide area. However, we did go somewhat off track and found it difficult to navigate our way back to the car park. As such, please do not follow our exact path!
Please follow the marked track :-)
The highlight for me was the old stone cottage on the upper plain next. Here, there are some large trees proving shade - a great place to pause and take it all in.
I walked this track with my dad and great-uncle many many years ago. I was pretty young at the time and recall on parts of the walk - in particular, the rock wall that made up a man-made lake to provide water for the sluicing. It's still there I'm sure it's just the same. Great to revisit all these years later.
A really delightful walk - don't miss it!
