Up at Otaki Forks, this is a beautiful walk through a regenerating forest. There are great views of the valleys and you can often see the Tararuas!
The path is clearly formed, a bit narrow in places (single file), mostly dirt and leaf-matter but not overly muddy.
There are waterfalls, plenty of native bush and ferns - a really pretty walk.

It's about a 90 minute drive from Wellington to the start of this walk. I suggest using the links below for directions.
In short, following the river all the way to the end of the road - and the carpark is on your right.
