A very nice area of native bush on the north edge of Stokes Valley.
There are 3 loop walks to choose from:
- Horoeka Loop - an easy 1.0km / 45mins (if that)
- Kingsley Loop - Intermediate 7.8km / 2.5 hours
- Tawhai Loop - hard 6.6km / 3 hours
Today was a fleeting visit so we took the easy Horoeka Loop. The path is mostly very well formed gravel and short boardwalks - but there are a couple of ares of exposed tree roots so mind your step.
Fairies everywhere! A lovely thing about this track is that the local (kids I presume) have placed cute little 'fairy houses' all along the track. They're quite entertaining. A group with a couple of young kids we met on the track totally adored the fairy houses. Luna had the odd sniff but I don't think they really took her fancy.
Dogs are welcome but must be on leash in the area. There's a poopbag dispenser and rubbish bin at the entrance to the area.
The native bush is quite spectacular and we'll be back to explore the other two tracks.
