About the walk

Catchpool Valley is a popular entrance to the Remutaka Forest Park and it's a superb place for a walk.

This is a DOC managed area and there are kiwi in the area. Dogs must be kept on a lead in Catchpool Valley. There are plenty of tracks to choose from - short, medium and long walks: see the DOC brochure for all the details.

Today we did the File Mile Loop which is mostly easy (there's a very short uphill & downhill section midway through the walk). The track is well formed - tree roots and the occasional muddy patch to watch out for.

Beech forest and native bush - simply stunning.

The walk didn't take as long as we expected so you might like to factor that in if you get to the area.

There is also an off-leash area across the road from the Catchpool Centre & Community Emergency Hub - about 450m from the entrance, on the right.

Directions
Catchpool Valley is 30km from Wellington. Head south from Wainuiomata - the entrance to the valley is well sign posted.
