Snout Track in the Victoria Domain, Picton is an easy walk with fantastic views of the Queen Charlotte Sound. While there are a few ups and downs, the track is well formed and there are no steps or stairs.

Having travelled by ferry from Wellington early in the morning, this track was a great for some after-lunch exercise. This is a great walk to take in many great views of the Sound and there are a good number of viewing points.

You can drive up to the Snout Track Car Park (as we did) and head off from there - give yourself 3 hours to get to the point and back. Or you can start from Picton to make it a 4hr return walk. We had intended to go all the way to the point, but time was not on our side unfortunately so we stopped and soaked it all in at the Queen Charlotte view point (it's an additional 40min each way to the point from here). There's a clean toilet here on the track.

Dog Control
One thing we were not aware of before we started this walk is that in August 2021 dog control was changed from off-lead to on-lead (see Stuff article)

What to bring
Take plenty of water for both you and your dog, and don't forget your sunscreen.
