This walk is a must if you're near Tūrangi. There are several walks around the Tongariro River, which are all well-signposted.
On this walk, we crossed the swing bridge at the end of Koura St and headed south. The path moves through native bush, then follows a fence line bordering farmland - nice views looking east.
Back into the bush and the path heads down a short set of stairs (there looks to be an alternative path that may not involve stairs - but it's probably steep). Then across another swing bridge where you can see anglers fishing for trout.
The path then heads north and is near the main highway - consider putting your dogs on lead for this part. Soon enough, the path moves away from the road and towards the river - it's a beautiful part of the track.
In summary, this is a great area for dog walking. The scenery is top-notch and suits a wide range of walkers.
