Seeing Luna in the snow was a highlight of our trip down south. With the excitement of a child witnessing their first snow, Luna was having the time of her life.
Our trip to the snow was delayed by a day as the Snow Farm delayed their opening until the Saturday - which was well worth it because the day was a stunner. In fact, the extra thermals we bought were not necessary and by the end of the day it was t-shirt weather.
The day in the snow began with a reasonably quick check-in and snow-shoe pickup and we were on the snow within 30 minutes. We'd purchased some booties for Luna and this was her first proper outing in them. Previously being sceptical about the booties, I have to say I was impressed with them and very glad she was wearing them. The ice around the carpark was slippery (no surprise there) and we could see the benefit of the the extra grip the booties provided. A few doggie slide arounds, but she adapted immediately to the boots. In addition, the booties prevented ice building up on her paws which is common for dogs.
Into the snow we go. And Luna was off! She loved it. Ears painted on - 'nuff said.
There's a route called the Dog Loop specifically for doggies. We headed along this route but didn't get all the way around - we were having too much fun with Luna.
We had Luna wearing a really nice Hurtta Extreme Warmer which was perfect for the day. I reckon these jackets are excellent - really easy to put on and take off, and it kept Luna at the perfect body temperature all day. The jacket is soft and waterproof - I'm super-impressed.
I highly recommend getting up to the snow park for a day. Other dog owners we met up there highly recommend cross-country skiing and having your dog tow you along - I'll be trying this the next time we visit. Even if you get up the mountain just to play in the Snow Play Area it's a great day out.

Snow Farm website for details. We'll be back!
